One more Carpenter masterpiece, sadly a bit underrated. Kinda tribute to H.P. Lovecraft, highly atmospheric, tense and creepy with a terrific cast (Sam Neill, Jürgen Prochnow, Charlton Heston...), excellent special effects, beautiful cinematography and a brilliant story with an outstanding ending. Highly recommended!
