Absolutely impressive Italo-horror classic from exploitation master Joe D'Amato, highly macabre and disturbing, extremely atmospheric and tense with an interesting story, a couple of pretty good actors, a brilliant soundtrack (from the god-like 'Goblin'), some terrifically creepy moments and, most notably, a high amount of unforgettably brutal, disgusting and fascinating scenes (including embalming, dismembering, ripping out fingernails, stabbing, butchering, raping, cannibalism etc. etc.). Simply a fabulous film.
