A highly mediocre and overrated giallo-like mystery-thriller. My expectations were high when I saw that John Carpenter wrote the script for "Laura Mars"- unfortunately he didn't direct it which is a shame, because I'm 100% sure it would have been way better with Carpenter's directing style.

What I like about it - the awesome cast (Faye Dunaway, Tommy Lee Jones, Brad Dourif...), the beautiful and stylish camera work, the entertaining soundtrack (lots of fabulous disco music, incl. 'Let's All Chant' & 'Shake Your Booty') and a super-excellent twist ending

What I don't like about it - too many extremely slow-paced and tedious scenes where absolutely nothing happens, the kills are all quite disappointing and the plot is full of annoying holes.

Ok, but nothing of note.
