Yesterday, a lotta Leprechaun-related posts on Facebook totally made me realize that I actually haven't seen one single Leprechaun-flick before! So I rushed over to iTunes, streamed it - and about 90 minutes later I was not only Lepre-cherry-popped, but also extremely surprised about how much I enjoyed this silly little horror-comedy.
Basically it's a pretty stupid movie with some terrible acting, a few extremely annoying characters and many plot holes
- but aside from that, I really, really loved it, mainly because of the Leprechaun himself, one of the funniest and most hilarious characters in horror history. Warwick Davis does a great job on playing the gold-feverish little nag. I adore every scene where he's riding a vehicle (a tricycle, a plastic car, a skateboard and, most hilarious, a wheelchair), where he kills someone (most notably, the amusing pogo stick kill) and, of course, where he drops a witty one-liner ("This old Lep, he played one. He played Pogo on his lung." / "I'll bite your ear off and make a boot out of it." / "Try as they will and try as they might, who steals me gold won't live through the night" / "Where's me gold?" etc.).

Other highlights: the dismembered hand, the little hand from out of the phone, Lep's conversation with the cop, the scene where he crashes through the fence and the scene where he hides in the kitchen cabinets
Furthermore, the quality of the script surprised me as it is not only funny and campy, but also full of suspenseful (the opening), creepy/atmospheric (in the cellar) and tense/action-packed (climax) scenes, plus: it absolutely never gets boring.
Finally I have to admit that I really like Jennifer Aniston in here.
Usually I'm a huge Aniston-despiser and I hate every movie with her in it - but to my surprise, her performance here is pretty enjoyable.

Overall, a highly entertaining 90s b-movie; I had a blast watching it.
Happy belated St. Patrick's Day!

Best in the series is either Leprechaun 2 or 3.
