This Australian horror-drama, which I would sum up as
"Saw" for expectant mothers,
"Saw" for expectant mothers,
is another fine example of a 'a good idea, badly executed'.
Starts out quite tense and interesting, gets bloody dull and extremely tedious in the middle, ends up stupid and pointless.
The acting is pretty ok, the settings look brilliant, the camera work is terrific and there are plenty of nice gore scenes.
Sadly, the pacing is absolutely horrible, the characters are all uninteresting cardboard cutouts, the plot is completely silly, the script is one helluva disaster and the soundtrack seems to be non-existent.
Passable but forgettable.

"Saw for expectant mothers." What a great turn of phrase. This sounds like something I might air for my annual Fright Fest as filler while we drink and eat before the main movie.
ReplyDeletenot worth it.
ReplyDeleteanything monster-baby-related (It's Alive, The Suckling etc.) is more fun :-)
I'll take your advice. :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAll you needed to say was "Saw" and my interest had checked out...

ReplyDeletealways a pleasure :)
@Bleaux:
well, it was indeed intended as a warning :)
It wasn't that bad, but as you said, it suffered badly from a weak execution. It's a pity, since in better hands, it could have been a great little horror film.
ReplyDeletetotally! Give it to Greg McLean or Andrew Traucki (or some other great Australian director) and I'm sure it would be a kick-ass horror fmovie!
