Never forget, always remember
the "Horror Blog Of The Month" of November!
(Bad rhyme is bad :-)
Yep, this month it's
the terrific horror blog from Robocop's Sad Side a.k.a. Eric, a nice guy from sunny Florida.
Don't worry... this blog is not about Robocop, it's purely about horror movies.
Eric is not only a huge horror buff who (like most of us) loves to watch all kinds of horror stuff, he's also a keen and passionate writer. His reviews are always detailed and informative, entertaining and readable; his style of writing often reminds me a bit of Carl Manes from I Like Horror Movies.
No matter whether you're on duty or not:
if you're online, you definitely need to check out the sad side of Robocop! :-)
Maynard:
Hi Eric! Who are you and why do you blog?
Eric:
I am Eric King aka Robocop's Sad Side, a 34 year old Horror/Sci-Fi/Video game nerd and proud father of a 3 year old daughter. I live in Saint Cloud, Florida, home of 2000 Maniacs!
I used to review for a couple of horror websites back in 2002 and stopped around 2005 just for the need of a break. However, I still found myself ranting constantly on message boards. Then, life caught up with me and I had to take a break.
Around this time last year, I saw Hatchet II in theaters and just really felt the want to do it again. I've always liked to write, no matter how good or bad my writing actually is, it's just something I always found fun. It was actually reading the 'Freddy In Space' blog almost daily that motivated me to do it again. So, I started up a blogger page and just went with it. I figured, even if nobody is reading, I am still having fun and that's what matters.
Which movie made you a horror fan (and why)?

I have to credit Silver Bullet for that. I think that is the one that forever changed me because at the time I was young, and the FX were pretty mind blowing to me at that age --not now, but the movie is still a whole hell of a lot of fun. I also really enjoyed the chemistry between Corey Haim and Gary Busey. Werewolves have been my favorite supernatural monster ever since.
Give me a good lycanthrope film over vampires and I'm happy!
Who is your favorite horror director (and why)?
Some director's come back from a break and have a hard time re-capturing the magic they once had, like Romero and Carpenter. I'm not saying I completely hate their recent efforts; I'm saying Dante is still really on point. The Hole feels so very Dante, where as Carpenter's The Ward only feels like Carpenter every once in a while.
What are your alltime horror favorites?
(I'll leave Gremlins out, since I already cited it as one of my favorite movies of all time.)
The Wolf Man
Creature From the Black Lagoon
Black Christmas (original)
Day of the Dead (original - used to be Dawn, but overtime I came to really appreciate Day)
An American Werewolf in London
What's the worst horror movie you've seen so far?
Children of the Living Dead
Most of my friends don't like horror movies. How about your friends?
Most of my friends that I still see on the regular are horror fans, but it's usually for either the more mainstream stuff or newer films, while I have no preference as long as the movie is good.
I made the mistake about a year ago of trying to show them John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, which I think is amazing, but they were bored out of their heads. It was really uncomfortable sitting there thinking "Wow, this movie is so great!", and knowing that the rest of the people on my couch were hating it.

Luckily, my girlfriend loves horror movies, mostly everything I like!
Choose: Michael? Leatherface? Jason? Tall Man? Other?
Gonna go with The Tall Man. Love the Scrimminator!
Choose: US Horror? European Horror? Asian Horror? Other?
I'm gonna go with European horror. A lot of stuff that has came out of France in the last 6 or so years has really knocked me on my ass.
Do you prefer watching horror at home or at the theater?
Definitely home. Nothing pisses me off more than paying good money to go see a movie and have that constant interruption of someone talking, someone texting, someone taller than me and decides to sit right in front of me even in an empty theater... so on and so forth.
*Classic rock - Rush, Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer
*90's rock - Kyuss, Helmet, Quicksand
*90's Hip Hop - A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Casual
*Metal - D.R.I., Slayer, Obituary
*Punk - Avail, Lagwagon, A Wilhelm Scream... my musical taste is all over the place.
What do you read?
I read a lot of comics. The Walking Dead, Invincible, The Boys, Punisher. For books, right now I am in the middle of The Mist and Thor (a book that the werewolf film Bad Moon was based off), and recently read The Hellbound Heart.
Tell me the first 3 things that come to your mind when you think about Austria:
Funny Games, Arnold Schwarzenegger and PEZ
Anything Else you wanna tell us?
Though, my Blogger page comes from a Robocop 3 tagline, I am in no way a fan. The tagline just happens to be extremely bad ass. :-D
Thank you, Eric!

I just love those interviews and meeting great horror buffs. I haven't heard of BOBOD before, but I'm glad you crowned it Horror Blog of November! The interview was very entertaining, and hey I'm a huge Gremlins fan as well. I grew up watching this brilliant flick!
