A pretty haunting and very well produced short film about a broken relationship, a vengeful mortician and one of the worst nightmares I could imagine.
The look of "Deviling" is awesome due to incredibly beautiful cinematography, stunning-looking shots, strong close-ups and a fabulously gorgeous color palette.
Robert Haulbrook delivers one of the most powerful, most believable acting performances I've ever seen in a short film. He gives his character an intriguing depth that really blew my mind.
Michael Sharpe's direction / script is marvellous and the chilling soundtrack is very fitting, very effective.
The ending is a bit too predictable and reminded me too much of George Sluizer's "The Vanishing" (1988), and I wasn't completely convinced of Jodi Essex' performance - but apart from that, "Deviling" is a cool little film, highly recommended to everyone who enjoys gruesome revenge stories.

Maynard, you're really going 'long' to get these shorts some deserved recognition! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI don't normally do short films, but you've recommended a couple of very intriguing ones.

Yeah, seen lots of really awesome horror shorts lately, and theykeep-a-comin'.
@Mel:
Thank you, Mel. A year ago I would have said the same, but now I'd definitely call myself a short-film-fan.
