Fortunately, everything after the first half hour is simply AMAZING!
Veteran actor Klaus Stiglmeier enters the stage and delivers a mindblowing performance as ex-East-German border guard Armin, one of the most insane villains since Dr. Heiter.
"Urban Explorer" is undoubtedly one of the best German horror movies I've ever seen (next to "Rammbock" and "Nekromantik 1 & 2"). Fingers crossed for a sequel!

Wow, what a surprise... what a big surprise! Against all my expectations, this movie turned out to be something really, really awesome: "Urban Explorer", a grim and brutal German horror flick, best described as a gripping mix of "Creep" and "Wolf Creek".
The first half hour was a mixed bag for me: there are MANY wonderful shots of the Berlin underground tunnels and some cool music from 'Zoot Woman' and 'Knorkator' - but also a bunch of idiotic and completely unlikable douchebag characters, lame dialogue, slow pacing and not enough action.

There's loads of incredibly tense and fantastically supenseful scenes, some harsh torture, some gruesome gore (cut off ear, a skinned torso), a few nice plot twists, a rousing score and an excellent finale.

This one sounds good - I've really been in the mood for a good splattery flick - haven't scratched the itch yet...maybe this will be the one...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds excellent, will have to check it out when I get the chance.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for a new good horror film for awhile now. Definitely going to check this one out.
ReplyDeleteHarry, I'm so glad you liked it. To be honest, I expected a cheap, uninspired slasher, but it turned out quite good.
ReplyDeleteI just gave you an award: http://www.fullmoonreviews.net/2012/04/full-moon-reviews-is-now-4-years-old.html

I'm always skeptical towards German horror films, because most of them are disappointing - but this one is just kick-ass!
@Fred:
ReplyDeleteWait... what? Me? Awesome, thank you very much Fred!!!
I'm glad you find this nasty (yet bloody good) surprise for me quite enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteArmin is plain creepy!
@Kai:
ReplyDeleteYeah, this one really suprised me, especially Armin, one of the most impressive villains I've seen in a long time.
