I'm not sure if it's unfair to compare "Cosmopolis" to Cronenberg's recent output, but... well, his last 3 movies "A History Of Violence", "Eastern Promises" and "A Dangerous Method" were so fucking great, I obviously expected his adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel of the same name equally amazing - alas, I left the theater quite disappointed.

 

"Cosmopolis" is not a bad film. It's visually stunning, surprisingly witty and completely different from everything Cronenberg has done before - unfortunately, it's focussing sooooo strongly on long and lengthy dialogue, it's hard to sit through this capitalism-satire which is basically a 110minute long limousine ride.

The acting is awesome: Robert Pattinson fully proves that he is a way better, way more talented actor than his Twilight-sidekick, Juliette Binoche is wonderful as always, Kevin Durand is extremely cool and Paul Giamatti delivers one of the greatest and most hilarious performances of his career.
I love the unconventional camera work (mostly full-face close-ups), the limousine design is ace and the dialogue is superb.

However, the whole movie is too long and too dull. The pacing is odd, the script feels vapid and the direction is somewhat bizarre. The sparse soundtrack from Howard Shore and Metric is boring and underwhelming, and there are many scenes that should have been trimmed or even snipped out completely.

Recommended ONLY to fans of Cronenberg and De Lillo - everyone else stay away.
