OTHER (2012)

OTHER
(15minute short)

USA, 2012
Director: Daniel DelPurgatorio

9/10

This is unquestionably the best body-horror-related film I've seen in a long time (next to "Familiar"). Plain and simple. Director Daniel DelPurgatorio (the man behind the animated short "Watchmen: Tales Of The Black Freighter") created a grim and highly unsettling film about a cancer-ridden doctor who tries to cure his disease by building a machine that pulls cancerous tissue out of his body. The machine works, but not exactly as he expected...

"Other" is not for the faint-hearted. It's a harsh and quite unpleasant film, full of really extreme scenes and very loud sound effects - but if you're one of the people (like me) who "enjoy" watching disturbing movies that can shock the shit out of you, then you just have to see this.

It's a powerful, visually striking and tremendously impressive short film, thanks to shitloads of incredibly realistic-looking make-up effects, fantastic-looking gore effects, a superbly bleak one-room setting and some striking cinematography.

David Steiger's performance is excellent and very believable (his painful screaming is insanely awesome) and the Nine-Inch-Nails-like soundtrack is just breathtaking.
"Other" is a stunning little shocker. Highly recommended to Cronenbergians and fans of the extreme.
